PayPal pilots QR codes for in-person transactions
They are waiving seller transaction fees until 10 August.
PayPal has rolled out QR codes for buying and selling goods in-person in Hong Kong, as a part of a global launch in 28 markets worldwide, according to a news release.
They are also temporarily waiving their standard seller transaction fees incurred on QR code sales until 10 August 2020.
QR codes are a quick and safe way to transact in-person using a PayPay wallet, as they allow sellers to minimise physical interactions as well as limiting the customer’s interaction with checkout technology, especially amidst the pandemic.
In order to pay, customers can go to the PayPal app, click ‘Send’ and tap the QR code symbol in the top right-hand corner. The camera will open, and they can scan a seller’s code and follow the prompts to complete the transaction. Sellers can create a PayPal-generated code by following the steps outlined on the PayPay website.
