Health vs wealth: What’s more important for Hong Kongers?
HSBC Life’s +Factor Study reveals key insights into how health and financial well-being impact lives.
For Hong Kongers, staying healthy is better than being wealthy as more than one in two (51%) would advise their younger self to “maintain a healthy lifestyle” than to ‘save more money’ (49%), a study by HSBC Life revealed.
The HSBC Life +Factor Study enumerated insights on how physical, financial, and mental health impact day-to-day lives and future plans.
The survey also saw a direct relation line between being healthy and being able to enjoy wealth. 74% believe they need to be physically healthy. 68% Said their physical health and financial position are equally important whilst 65% said they need to be mentally healthy to be able to enjoy their wealth.

The survey also revealed that the impact of physical, mental, and financial health on happiness, achieving goals, and overall value quality of life varies.
When asked “who has the confidence to achieve their goals?”, 80% of respondents with high financial resilience have the confidence to achieve their goals. Meanwhile, 78% of respondents with high physical resilience have the confidence to achieve their goals.
Only 73% of respondents with high mental resilience have the confidence to achieve their goals.
Meanwhile, those who have the most physical resilience are the happiest (74%), followed by those mentally resilient (71%), and those who are financially resilient (69%).
Those with high physical resilience (74%) are also the most satisfied with their quality of life whilst both those who have high mental resilience and financial resilience are tied (72%).
