Nearly 9 in 10 Australian CPAs based in HK commit to net-zero goals
Meanwhile, 78% of HK CPAs also recognised their role in reducing CO2 emissions.
Almost nine in 10, or 85%, of Hong Kong accounting and financial professionals have pledged to help achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
This was reflected in a survey conducted by CPA Australia on its 300 members based in HK.
Amongst those surveyed, 75% agreed that the accounting profession has a “key role to play” in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
CPA Australia Chief Executive Andrew Hunter echoed this, saying that the “accounting profession occupies a privileged position in the global economy.”
“As trusted advisers, we're privy to deep business insights about sustainability risks and opportunities. This knowledge creates an obligation to use our skills to protect our environmental heritage,” Hunter added.
About 90% of the accountants and finance professionals said they want to expand their knowledge on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.
CPA Australia, for its part, said it is willing to provide training and guidance to its Hong Kong-based members on how to reduce emissions in their own organizations and businesses.
The accountancy body has also pushed for ESG integration and green financing in Hong Kong by submitting 12 proposals to the local government.
Meanwhile, 78% of the local members have also expressed support for Hong Kong to become a regional carbon credit trading hub, saying such will be an opportunity to expand green and sustainable finance in the city.
