Octopus expands taxi QR payments

Operators can now accept payments from UnionPay, AlipayHK, and Alipay.

From 25 January, 21,000 taxi drivers in the region can accept QR payments from UnionPay, AlipayHK and Alipay through the Octopus App for Business and Octopus Mobile POS.

Taxi drivers need to enter the payment amount into the updated Octopus App for Business, and passengers can tap their Octopus card or scan the QR code on the paired Octopus Mobile POS to pay.

Octopus is also rolling out a referral programme to onboard more taxi drivers to join the Octopus platform.

From 11 January to 31 March 2024, drivers who successfully refer their peers to use the Octopus App for Business will receive a $100 reward for each new referral.

Octopus will also continue to waive transaction fees for taxi drivers until the end of 2025 to engage sign-ups from taxi drivers.

Meanwhile, Octopus will provide newly registered taxi drivers with complimentary Octopus Mobile POS devices and waive their transaction fees.
