Overworked? Study finds that 72% of Hong Kong employees are unhappy
Employees in Hong Kong work an average of 41 hours each week.
With 41 hours spent on their jobs each week, 72% of Hong Kong employees have expressed displeasure towards work.
This was revealed by a study by workspace innovation company, The Instant Group.
Based on the study, Hong Kong also has the lowest amount of leave days in the Asia Pacific region with only seven days, tied with Singapore.
With long working hours and low leave days, Hong Kong ranked third most overworked place in the Asia Pacific Region, behind China which ranked second, and Singapore which was first.
To combat the culture of overworking, The Instant Group suggested companies to do the following steps:
- Educate managers on how to spot burnout and overworking;
- Create a culture of unplugging after work and on weekends;
- Encourage open conversations about work-life balance; and
- Offer more flexible and agile working options
