Anti-discrimination advisory group formed
13 members will be appointed for 2-year terms.
According to a report, the new Advisory Group on Eliminating Discrimination Against Sexual Minorities has been formed to advise the Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs.
The Equal Opportunities Commission has welcomed the Government's decision to form the group, which will be chaired by Prof Fanny Cheung.
It will also include 13 members appointed for two-year terms from the academic and business sectors, the sexual minority community, and the Legislative Council.
The group will look into problems faced by sexual minorities, and will map out strategies to curb discrimination.
Commission chairperson Dr York Chow said he is pleased to note the Government has taken concrete steps to address the issue of discrimination and prejudice faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Hong Kong.
“The human rights of them are clearly defined through existing international human rights law. The commission will continue to advocate for the rights of the LGBT community to equal protection under the law," he said.
