
Employer fined $90,000 for late payment of wages
For delaying the payment of wages worth about $38,000, Global Trading Innovative Service Limited was fined $90,000 at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts.
The company failed to pay wages within seven days after the expiry of the wage period as required by the Employment Ordinance.
According to Section 23 of the Employment Ordinance, wages due upon expiry of wage periods shall be paid as soon as practicable, but not later than seven days thereafter. Any employer who fails to do so wilfully and without reasonable excuse commits an offence.
The prosecution was taken out by the Labour Department.
