9 in 10 employees feel obligated to upgrade skills
Women take more initiative in learning to upgrade their skillset.
9 in 10 (91%) Hong Kong employees feel that it is their responsibility to upgrade their work skills through learning and development opportunities, according to Randstad’s Workmonitor report.
Almost half (49%) of Hong Kongers have taken a curriculum course in the last 12 months with 39% willing to pay for the programme themselves.
Hong Kong’s figures are in line with the global average (91%), representing an increasingly competitive workforce that takes initiative to improve one’s skillset.
“In order to remain relevant and gain a competitive edge in today’s environment, employees are taking the initiative to sign up for more learning and development opportunities. The myriad of online courses offer employees with flexible options, making it easier for them to connect with experts around the world to deepen their knowledge,” said Natalie Sun of Randstad Hong Kong.
More women (94%) feel that it is their responsibility to upgrade their skills and competencies than men (89%) do.
Those in the 18-34 age group also feel more strongly in taking initiative to pursue learning opportunities for skills upgrade (94%) than the 35-54 age group.
