9 in 10 employees say learning on their own is key to remain competitive

Half of them have taken a curriculum course in the past year.

The latest Randstad Workmonitor report (Q3 2017) revealed an increasingly competitive workforce across Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Nine in 10 global employees say that it is a personal responsibility to keep up with the best practices through learning and development opportunities. This sentiment is similar in Singapore (83%), Malaysia (96%) and Hong Kong (91%).

Natellie Sun, Managing Director of Randstad Hong Kong noted, “In order to remain relevant and gain a competitive edge in today’s environment, employees are taking the initiative to sign up for more learning and development opportunities. The myriad of online courses offer employees with flexible options, making it easier for them to connect with experts around the world to deepen their knowledge.”

Identical to the global average, nine out of 10 employees in Hong Kong (91%) feel that they have to pursue learning and development opportunities on their own. 49% of Hongkongers have taken a curriculum course in the last 12 months and 39% are willing to pay for a programme themselves.
