Green Employment Scheme to create 800 new jobs
Of this, 500 are time-limited whilst 300 are subsidised jobs.
Some 800 environmental-related jobs are expected under the government’s Green Employment Scheme (GES), the Environment Bureau reported.
This includes 500 time-limited jobs and 300 others that are subsidised under the government’s programme for graduates.
"We understand that the local market is facing huge pressure and challenges due to the persistence of the epidemic,” a spokesman for the bureau said.
“We hope that the subsidy programme would provide relevant graduates with more green employment opportunities and help with professional succession in the environmental sector.”
The government had earlier announced that $6.6b of the budget has been earmarked to create 30,000 more time-limited jobs this year.
The 800 jobs of the Environment Bureau will cover categories such as “Electric Vehicles Popularisation,” “Use Less, Waste Less,” and the “Leave No Trace at Mountain and Sea.”
Further, the GES also features a subsidy programme for graduates that extends a monthly subsidy of $5,610 to eligible graduates for 18 months. It is expected to benefit some 300 jobs.
On top of this, the Environmental Academy of the Environmental Protection Department will continue its collaboration with professional societies for the professional training course “GreenPro Training Programme.”
