Hong Kong population edged up a tad 0.6% to 7.2m

According to a release, the provisional Hong Kong population estimate was 7,219,700 at the end of last year, up 0.6% on the previous year.

The Census & Statistics Department said there were 57,100 births, 42,500 deaths, and a net movement of 27,200 Hong Kong residents.

Among the total population at year-end, 6,997,800 were usual residents and 221,900 were mobile residents.

The revised figure for the 2013 mid-year population was 7,187,500. The number of usual residents was revised to 6,975,300 and the number of mobile residents 212,200. The population growth rate from mid-2012 to mid-2013 was also revised to 0.5%.
