Hong Kong's unemployment rate stood steady at 3.1%
But underemployment edged up to 1.4%.
According to a release, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.1% in February-April, the same as in January-March, while the underemployment rate rose from 1.2% to 1.4%, the Census & Statistics Department says.
Increases in the unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, were seen in the decoration, repair and maintenance for buildings, and accommodation services sectors, while decreases were mainly seen in cleaning services and similar activities, and the construction sector's foundation and superstructure works.
Total employment rose by about 3,800 to 3,724,800 in February-April. The labour force also expanded, by abound 6,100 to 3,846,200.
There were 121,400 unemployed people, not seasonally adjusted, and 52,800 underemployed people.
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said the labour market remained tight in February-April, with the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate staying at a 16-year low of 3.1% for the fourth consecutive month. He expects the labour market to remain steady in the near term.
"Nevertheless, the pace of global economic recovery remains fluid, while the United States Federal Reserve's tapering course will also bring about uncertainties."
