Nearly half of employees expect to ditch their jobs in 2018

49% have expressed dissatisfaction with their compensation package.

Despite a thriving economy and flat unemployment rate, nearly half of Hong Kong employees have expressed dissatisfaction about their careers and are expecting to change jobs within the year, according to a media release from Hays. 

More than a fifth (23%) are set on changing employers within six months whilst 33% already on the hunt for a new job.

The survey also revealed that almost half (49%) of employees are unhappy over their compensation and benefits package which might have accelerated their plans to shift careers. 

More than a fourth (27%) have tried to take matters in their own hands and requested for a salary and was consequently rewarded but 15% were rejected when they tried asking for a raise.

“A total of 58% of candidates told us that ‘salary and benefits’ was the top reason for accepting a new role, but this is a drop on our previous survey when 64% of respondents cited this reason,” said Hays Hong Kong managing director Dean Stallard. A ‘lack of career progression’ was the second most common reason followed by ‘the management style & company culture’.”
