
Private-sector vacancies up 13%
As employment jumped by 1.7%.
According to a report, total private-sector employment rose 1.7% year-on-year in September, or by 45,000 people. Vacancies increased 13%.
The Census & Statistics Department said today employment increases were recorded in the construction sites (6.3%), human health services (5.4%), information and communications (5.2%), professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services) (4.6%), and accommodation services (covering hotels, guesthouses, boarding houses and other establishments providing short term accommodation) (4.4%) sectors.
Employment decreased in the manufacturing (-2.7%) and wholesale (-2.5%) trades.
Of the 78,300 private-sector vacancies, 12,870 were in the food and beverage services, 9,190 in the retail, 8,630 in the import-export, 7,300 in the professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services), and 5,840 in the financing and insurance sectors.
