Salary and career progression are equally important to jobseekers
Almost half (43%) consider it as top factors when considering a job offer.
Two in 5 (43%) Hong Kong jobseekers consider a competitive salary and benefits package and clear career progression of equal value when considering their employment options, according to a survey from Hays.
“Salary and benefits has long been a key concern for job hunters in Hong Kong, but with a similar number also nominating ‘clear career progression’, it shows there is a significant amount of job hunters who value the importance of identifiable career paths over monetary gain which is a noteworthy message for employers,” said Hays Hong Kong managing director Dean Stallard.
Compared to Mainland China, however, Hong Kongers value a competitive salary package more as over 62% cite clear career progression as a main motivator over the measly 25%who cited salary and associated benefits as a key factor in accepting a job proposal.
Clear career progression was also the top reason motivating Singapore (49%) and Japanese (42%) jobseekers.
On the other hand, Malaysian candidates placed primacy on salary and benefits (41%) as their main reason for accepting a new job.
