The ongoing World Cup likely took a share of gaming budgets in Macau gaming in June, and could continue to negatively impact July GGR.
According to a research note from Barclays, most operators agreed that the World Cup had been having an impact on GGR in June and will likely spill over into July.
The note said that a portion of player’s budgets were allocated to wagers on the soccer matches in June.

Honing in on an exact figure is difficult, especially given that there was no premium mass market during the last World Cup and this is the sector most likely affected.
While not entirely the driver for the slower GGR growth this month, we estimate month to date GGR revenues already point to a 5% year over year decline in gaming revenues for June, which is likely already well understood by investors.
