Customs Department inks deal with six container terminal operators

The MoU aims to set arrangements for sea cargo customs clearance.

The Customs and Excise Department has inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six Hong Kong container terminal operators (CTOs) outlining cooperative agreements for sea cargo customs clearance including liaison mechanism, cargo detention notification and case reporting.

"By setting out clearly the signatories' roles and obligations, partnership will become smooth and a sound foundation for exploring of other co-operative arrangements in the future is also laid,” assistant commissioner of customers and excise (boundary and ports) Louise Ho said in a statement. 

The MoU also aims to enhance cargo clearance efficiency and ensure effective law enforcement, she added.

The six CTOs who have inked the MoU include Asia Container Terminals Limited, COSCO-HIT Terminals (Hong Kong) Limited, CSX World Terminals Hong Kong Limited, Hongkong International Terminals Limited, Modern Terminals Limited and River Trade Terminal Company Limited.
