Customs seizes $2.7m suspected fake goods
The haul of contraband included branded shoes, handbags and watches.
Hong Kong Customs has seized some 20,000 items of suspected fake goods, estimated to be worth around $2.7m.
The counterfeited items were carried in two 40-foot containers arriving in Hong Kong from Nansha, Guangdong. The goods include shoes, handbags, watches and mobile phone accessories.
The Customs unit said based on their initial investigations, the two batches of suspected counterfeited products were to be re-exported to North American and Middle East countries. Investigations are still ongoing.
It was noted also that the government would continue to closely monitor smuggling trends and cooperate with concerned agencies overseas to prevent entry of illegal goods.
Customs also reminded that under the Trade Description Ordinance, persons involved in importing and exporting goods with a forged trademark may be fined up to $500,000 and face a 5-year jail time.
