Hong Kong customs seized $20m worth of smuggled goods

Hong Kong customs seized around $20m worth of smuggled goods in an operation in Lau Fau Shan on 16 March.

Custom officers were conducting an anti-smuggling operation that day when they spotted at least six men on the shore moving cartons from a lorry to a speedboat using a ladder with metal rollers.

A 32-year-old man who was suspected to be a porter was arrested during the operation, but the other suspects managed to evade capture by jumping on a speedboat to flee the scene. Customs officers impounded the truck.

The batch of smuggled goods included dried abalones, bird nests and dried cucumbers, which are Chinese delicacies. Other goods included electronic parts, camera lenses of smartphones, and cosmetics.
